Piano Lessons and More
Music Theory
Don’t be put off by the word ‘theory’. Music is a science as well as an art and music theory is all about learning the nuts and bolts of how music works. It’s a fascinating study and empowers us to be better pianists and musicians.
Ear Training
We hear music with our ears and the objective of ear training is to improve our ability to hear. Developing our ears allows us to recognize what we hear, making learning faster and easier. It’s also an essential part of improvisation, and it’s fun!
Reading Music
How much of the world would be closed to us if we couldn’t read? It’s the same in the musical world. Once we’re able to read music notation, everything becomes accessible to us, from pop songs and jazz standards to ‘the three Bs’.
Improvisation
Improvisation is creating music spontaneously. Whether taking a solo in a jazz or pop song or performing an entire piece of original music, improvisation is about developing your own unique musical voice.
Scales and Chords
Scales and chords are the foundation of piano technique as well as musical structure. Gaining a degree of fluency in your knowledge of both, especially in jazz, is an essential aspect of learning how to play.
Build Your Repertoire
Bach, The Great American Songbook, pop songs, jazz standards - whatever you learn to play becomes a part of your performance repertoire. Our lessons together can focus on the music and styles that interest you most.
“After completing her Grade 5, my daughter was so happy to be able to continue lessons with Lee.”
